Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) is a National Specialized and University Teaching Hospital offering cardiovascular care, training and research services.
Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute was established in October 2015 by the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac (Establishment) Instrument, 2015 .The Institute has 103 bed capacity attending on average 700 outpatients and 100 inpatients per week.The Institute has 203 employees organized into six directorates which are Cardiology services, Surgical Services, Nursing Services, Clinical Support Services and Corporate Services.
These directorates are sub-divided into 16 departments.Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) is a Government owned hospital which serves patients from across all regions of United Republic of Tanzania who are referred from regional referral and designated hospitals for cardiovascular medical intervention.FunctionsJakaya Kikwete cardiac Institute is mandated to performed the following functions;-Control and manage the Institute and any other hospitals providing cardiovascular health services as may be vested in the Institute under this Instrument or any other written law;Undertaking medical care of out-patients and in-patients in accordance with medical ethics;Stimulating and promoting programs for the improvement or advancement of cardiovascular health and general welfare of the people of the United Republic;Advising the Government and other public organizations, review and revision of health education on cardiovascular programs for the benefit of members of the public;Equipping and managing the Institute as a national cardiovascular consultant and teaching Institute;Providing cardiovascular care, treatment and research normally provided by consultant and teaching hospitals and Institutes;Provide cardiology, cardio thoracic and vascular medical science education and training at acceptable university standards; facilities for, and encourage, study and research in the fields of cardiovascular medicine;Encourage the advancement and development of knowledge, and its application to Government, industry, commerce and the community in the cardiovascular medicine fields;Undertake, either alone or in association with any other person or body of persons within or outside the United Republic, the development or production of pharmaceuticals, reagents medical instruments and equipment; andPrepare students for such examinations as may be conducted by the relevant competent authorities in respect of subjects related to cardiology and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery training programs carried out by the Institute.
